Jimmy Kimmel just turned Donald Trump’s own words into the punchline.
On Tuesday night’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the late-night host went straight after Trump over the president’s controversial comments at a Nebraska rally, where Trump said, “Let them take out Los Angeles. Let them take out San Diego.” Trump described it as a “very small price to pay” in the context of the war with Iran.
Kimmel didn’t hold back.
He called the remarks “truly appalling” and said they were “one of the craziest, most indefensible statements I have ever heard.”
Then he changed the subject — and turned the spotlight directly back on the media reaction.
🔥 KIMMEL BROUGHT OUT THE RECEIPTS.
He replayed clips from April, when conservative commentators and Trump allies demanded consequences after Kimmel joked about Melania Trump.
The old clips showed commentators describing Kimmel’s remarks as dangerous, violent and deserving of action from the FCC.
Then Kimmel showed more recent reactions to Trump’s California comments, including commentators dismissing the president’s remarks as a joke.
And that was when Kimmel delivered his response.
“That’s right. You know what? I’m going to report him to the FCC!”
The audience erupted.
Kimmel continued:
“Now it’s a joke, before it was not a joke. The hypocrisy is so glaring, you can’t even turn your head toward it.”
💥 THAT WAS THE POINT OF HIS ENTIRE ARGUMENT.
Kimmel wasn't simply criticizing Trump's choice of words.
He was comparing how his own joke about Melania was treated months ago with how some conservative commentators were treating Trump's much more recent remarks.
To Kimmel, the standard appeared to have changed.
When he made a joke, it was treated as dangerous.
When Trump made a controversial joke, some of the same voices suddenly called it harmless.
That contrast became the centerpiece of Kimmel’s monologue.
But there is another side to the controversy.
The White House has rejected the interpretation that Trump was advocating for Iran to attack American cities. Trump’s communications team said he was referring to the threat Iran could pose if it obtained nuclear weapons and arguing that U.S. action had prevented that scenario. FactCheck.org likewise found that the broader context did not establish that Trump was actually advocating an attack on Los Angeles or San Diego, although his wording was confusing and drew widespread criticism.
Still, Kimmel decided to take the remarks head-on.
🎤 No hesitation. No backing away.
He used the moment to challenge what he saw as a glaring double standard in the reaction to political jokes and rhetoric.
And whether viewers agree with Kimmel or Trump, one thing is undeniable:
The exchange has become another major chapter in the ongoing battle between late-night television and the White House.
🔥 Jimmy Kimmel said his piece.
And this time, he made sure the audience heard every word.
